Platform
BigCommerce Development
BigCommerce suits brands that want a hosted platform with an open API, native B2B and several storefronts from one back office. We build, migrate, integrate and support BigCommerce stores, from Stencil themes to headless frontends.
Where it fits
Where BigCommerce fits
A hosted platform with fewer limits than most: worth it when you need B2B, several storefronts or open APIs without running the infrastructure yourself.
-
B2B and B2C on one platform
Company accounts, buyer roles, quotes and customer price lists alongside a consumer storefront.
-
Several brands or regions
Multiple storefronts from one control panel, each with its own catalogue, domain, currency and theme.
-
Large or complex catalogues
Products with many variants, options and custom fields, managed in one place and fed to every channel.
-
Open APIs without the hosting
REST and GraphQL APIs for integrations and headless builds, on a platform BigCommerce hosts and updates.

Capabilities
What we do on BigCommerce
Store builds, migrations and the integration work around them.
-
Stencil theme builds
Custom and redesigned Stencil themes tuned for speed, search and conversion on mobile.
-
Headless storefronts
Catalyst or custom Next.js frontends on the GraphQL Storefront API, when a theme is not enough.
-
B2B Edition
Company accounts, buyer roles, quotes, price lists and a buyer portal set up for how your customers order.
-
Migration to BigCommerce
Moves from Magento, WooCommerce, Shopify or a custom platform, with products, customers, orders and URLs carried across.
-
ERP, PIM and app integrations
Connections to your ERP, PIM, OMS and marketing tools, built for production load with monitoring.
-
Support and optimisation
Ongoing development, performance and conversion work, and upkeep of apps and integrations.
Choose it for what it is good at
BigCommerce is at its best when B2B, multiple storefronts or open integrations matter more than having the largest app ecosystem. If your requirements are simpler, another hosted platform may be quicker to launch; if they are far more complex, you may need more control than SaaS allows. A platform review tells you which side of that line you are on before you commit.

Compare
How the platforms compare
The right platform depends on where your complexity sits, not on a feature list. This is the short version of the conversation we have in discovery.
| Criterion | Shopify Plus | BigCommerceThis page | Adobe Commerce | Salesforce Commerce Cloud | commercetools |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Brands that want speed to launch and a store their own team can run | B2B and B2C on one hosted platform, several storefronts and open APIs | Complex catalogues, contract pricing and deep ERP coupling | Retailers and B2B sellers whose business already runs on Salesforce | Multi-brand and multi-region models, and requirements no single suite fits |
| Hosting | Fully hosted SaaS; Shopify runs infrastructure, security and upgrades | Fully hosted SaaS; BigCommerce runs infrastructure, security and upgrades | Adobe-managed cloud or self-hosted, with more of the stack in your control | Fully hosted SaaS, run by Salesforce | Vendor-run cloud SaaS; you host the frontend and any services you add |
| B2B | Built-in B2B features on Plus: company accounts, catalogues, price lists, payment terms | B2B Edition: company accounts, buyer roles, quotes, price lists and buyer portal | Native B2B module: company accounts, shared catalogues, quotes and approvals | Separate B2B Commerce product, on the same CRM data | B2B in the core APIs: business units, buyer roles, quotes and approvals |
| Headless | Hydrogen framework and Oxygen hosting, over the Storefront API | Catalyst (Next.js) storefront or any frontend on the GraphQL Storefront API | GraphQL and REST APIs for a decoupled frontend | Commerce API with the PWA Kit composable storefront | API-first by design: the storefront is always a separate frontend |
| Pricing model | Monthly subscription, with a variable fee that scales with revenue | Core, Growth and Scale plans tiered by annual sales; Performance priced by agreement | Annual licence, typically tiered by revenue | Typically a share of gross merchandise value | Annual subscription, typically linked to order volume or GMV |
Vendor pricing and plan features change. Confirm current commercial terms with the vendor before you decide.
How it runs
How a BigCommerce project runs
- Discovery
Your catalogue, pricing and B2B rules, every system the store connects to, and the URLs that protect your search visibility.
- Architecture
Stencil or headless, single or multi-storefront, and how data moves between BigCommerce and your back office, with the trade-offs written down.
- Build and integrate
Storefront, B2B configuration and integrations built against a sandbox store with real catalogue data.
- Launch and support
Data migration, redirects and a monitored cutover, then optimisation and support on an agreed cadence.
Frequently asked questions
When is BigCommerce a better choice than Shopify Plus?
BigCommerce tends to suit brands that sell B2B and B2C from one platform, run several storefronts from one back office, or rely heavily on open APIs and integrations. Shopify Plus usually wins on app ecosystem and speed to launch for consumer brands. The right answer depends on your catalogue, B2B rules and integrations, which is what a platform review establishes.
Can BigCommerce handle B2B?
Yes. B2B Edition adds company accounts, buyer roles and permissions, quotes, customer-specific price lists, payment on account and a buyer portal. As with any B2B build, configuring those rules and integrating your ERP is where most of the work sits.
Do you build headless on BigCommerce?
Yes. BigCommerce's Catalyst is a Next.js storefront built for its GraphQL Storefront API, and any other frontend can use the same API. Headless is worth it when you need design or performance a Stencil theme cannot give you, and your team can run a separate frontend.
How long does a BigCommerce migration take?
It depends mostly on the number of integrations and the complexity of your catalogue and pricing, not on page count. Product, customer and order data, a URL redirect plan and integration rebuilds are the core of the work. Discovery establishes the timeline before any date is committed.
